Greenhouse Gas Emissions
A Marcellus Shale operator was faced with a complex task of collecting, calculating and reporting GHG emissions across the basin. In addition, due to state permitting requirements the operator was faced with completing LDAR testing at well pads of varying designs. To address the operator’s challenges HRP developed a GHG emission tracking system and LDAR testing protocols. The GHG tracking system consisted of GHG emission tracking software that was electronically populated by field personnel. While inspecting the pad, the well tenders would collect appropriate field data that would be upload it into the GHG tracking system. The HSE department would be electronically notified once the data was entered so it could be quality checked and verified. Once verified by HSE it would be posted and used for internal and EPA GHG reporting requirements.
To ensure LDAR testing consistency, HRP also developed LDAR testing protocols which included procedures for safety, definitions, calibration/maintenance, testing, component tagging and documentation. The operator utilized the LDAR testing protocol to develop unique protocols for each well pad based on its equipment and layout. The tracking system and LDAR protocols have provided the operator a level of compliance assurance that has withstood internal audits and state inspections.
