HRP’s 2025 Sustainability Report is Here: Here’s What We’ve Done over the Last Year

When people hear the phrase “sustainability report,” it’s likely that they immediately picture dense charts, corporate jargon, and enough acronyms to make any coffee they’ve poured go cold before page three.

But with HRP’s 2025 Sustainability Report, we set out to tell a different kind of story.

When people hear the phrase “sustainability report,” it’s likely that they immediately picture dense charts, corporate jargon, and enough acronyms to make any coffee they’ve poured go cold before page three.

But with HRP’s 2025 Sustainability Report, we set out to tell a different kind of story.

Yes, there are metrics. Yes, there are frameworks and reporting standards and all the things you would expect from a company that spends its days helping clients navigate environmental and compliance challenges. But underneath all of that is something we believe is much more human: a close look at how a company tries to grow responsibly while still doing meaningful work in the real world.

For HRP, sustainability is not boxed into one department or one annual initiative. It shows up in project planning, employee training, safety programs, community engagement, and even the way the company works with vendors and subcontractors. We wanted the report to paint a picture of sustainability as something woven into everyday operations and frame it as a process — one that involves figuring out where the company can make the most material impact over time. That mindset runs throughout the report, starting with the materiality assessment that acts as our compass, and navigating through our sustainability improvement plan and the long-term tracking of key performance indicators.

“Our Sustainability Report is based off of what we’ve identified as material to our organization and what we’re focusing on,” said Jackie Baxley, Principal and EHS&S Practice Leader at HRP. “We completed a materiality assessment that took a whole series of topics and placed them into Elevate, Monitor, and Maintain categories. That framework helps guide where HRP directs its attention and resources over the next several years.”

The top priorities weren’t flashy. Stakeholders ranked ethical business practices, accountability, employee development, data security, customer confidentiality, and subcontractor and vendor relationships among the most important focus areas. In other words, the fundamentals still matter. A lot.

Our Sustainability Report also highlights something easy to overlook in conversations about sustainability: people.

HRP invested more than 11,000 hours into professional development training in 2025, averaging 81 hours per employee — more than double the company’s stated goal. Programs like HRP 101, the newly launched HRP 201, and the Career Advocacy Program (CAP) are designed to support employees at different stages of their careers, from brand-new hires to early-career professionals looking for direction and mentorship.

The report is also grounded in internationally recognized sustainability frameworks, though HRP’s approach is intentionally practical.

“We model our Sustainability Program off of two standards: the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI),” Jackie says.

The UN SDGs provide broad global sustainability goals, while the GRI framework helps organizations report progress with transparency and consistency.

“We’ve taken the UN SDGs, these international goals, and localized them,” Jackie says. “We’ve identified the ones that are meaningful to us, and what we can measure and report. For instance, when it comes to ending global hunger, we’ve looked at what we can do, which includes hosting more food drives. In other words, we are applying the saying, ‘think globally, act locally.’”

HRP continued tracking greenhouse gas emissions in 2025 while also beginning the groundwork for identifying Scope 3 emissions — one of the more complex pieces of climate reporting because it involves impacts throughout a company’s broader value chain. The company also continued efforts related to water use, energy monitoring, recycling, and environmental compliance across its offices.

Instead of speaking broadly about sustainability, we showed — through the inclusion of project spotlights — what it looks like in practice: restoring contaminated wetlands, helping communities address groundwater impacts, supporting brownfield redevelopment projects, and assisting with safe reuse of industrial facilities. These are examples of environmental work intersecting directly with public health, infrastructure, and community planning.

We believe that’s what makes the report worth reading. It’s not simply a collection of sustainability goals. It’s a snapshot of how a company is trying to operate thoughtfully while balancing environmental responsibility, employee investment, governance, safety, and long-term growth.

Celebrating Administrative Professionals Day at HRP

In technical organizations, the spotlight naturally falls on the work itself — the projects completed, the problems solved, the results delivered to clients. But behind every successful project is a team ensuring that the business side of the business actually works.

In technical organizations, the spotlight naturally falls on the work itself — the projects completed, the problems solved, the results delivered to clients. But behind every successful project is a team ensuring that the business side of the business actually works.

Administrative Professionals Day is a chance to shift the spotlight. As CEO Dan Titus puts it, the role administrative professionals play goes far beyond keeping things organized.

“With any professional services firm, whether lawyer, doctor, engineer, accountant, there tends be a focus on the technical practice – whatever that may be. Often I think the business of the business gets lost. The administrative side of the house is really the business. It’s not just that they keep it running – that’s true – but in many ways they don’t just keep it running but make it run.”

That distinction matters. “Keeping something running” sounds like maintenance. What administrative professionals actually do is much more dynamic.

“The administrative staff is kind of our operators,” Dan says. “They aren’t the technical operators, but they are the business operators. Without them, this business ceases to exist. It’s an important function we can’t live without.”

Think about everything that allows HRP’s engineers and environmental professionals to do their work: licensing requirements, legal documentation, insurance coverage, benefits administration, reporting obligations, and countless operational details that must be handled accurately and on time. It’s the administrative side of the house that keeps everything moving, and over time, the role has only grown more complex.

As HRP has expanded across multiple states, administrative teams manage a growing patchwork of regulations and requirements. Employment laws, benefits structures, licensing standards, and corporate filings all vary from state to state, and staying on top of them requires constant attention. For example, employee leave policies may differ dramatically depending on location. It’s detailed work. It’s often invisible. But it has an impact every single day.

Administrative professionals are the ones who catch something before it becomes a problem, streamline a process that saves time for everyone, or keep dozens of moving pieces aligned so the business can operate smoothly. Their commitment shows up in the small moments that make a big difference. Which is exactly why this day exists.

“These folks deserve some sunshine,” Dan says. “In a technical business, we’re constantly talking about the projects. We highlight them, and the projects get the sunshine and flowers. Because the administrative role isn’t the technical role it always sort of stands just behind the curtain. It supports and makes it all possible, but it doesn’t get the same kind of sunshine.”

Administrative Professionals Day gives us the perfect reason to pull back the curtain.

“It’s a reminder of how essential the role is,” Dan adds. “A compelling reason to note it and make sure the people who make it all possible get the recognition they deserve.”

Making Work a Little Less Work: At HRP, Employee Appreciation is a Tradition

Each year, National Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated on the first Friday of March. In 2026, that happens to fall on March 6. It’s a day set aside for employers to recognize their teams, boost morale, and strengthen workplace culture through gratitude and connection.

Each year, National Employee Appreciation Day is celebrated on the first Friday of March. In 2026, that happens to fall on March 6. It’s a day set aside for employers to recognize their teams, boost morale, and strengthen workplace culture through gratitude and connection.

At HRP, we value that tradition. And we also have a story that reflects how appreciation and connection have long been part of who we are.

To understand it, you have to go back to a Friday afternoon in 1992. Around 3:12 p.m., a few HRP engineers — Tom Seguljic and Doug Pelham — were feeling the weight of a busy week. Consulting work is demanding. Our time is our product, clients rely on us, and deadlines matter. They decided to step away for a short walk across Cooke Street to J. Timothy’s Taverne. After a quick break, a pint, and some conversation, they returned recharged and finished the day strong.

The following week, at about the same time, they went again — this time joined by Tad Goetcheus and Keith Ziobron. Before long, a simple Friday reset became a ritual. Every Friday at 3:12 p.m., a page would go out over the intercom — HRP’s own version of a bat signal. A small group would gather, step away from their desks, and share a moment of camaraderie before heading into the weekend.

That tradition became known simply as “3:12.” Today, it even lives on through 3:12 – The HRP Podcast. But more importantly, it represents something deeper about our culture: connection matters. Stepping away for a moment matters. The relationships we build at work matter.

As CEO Dan Titus puts it, “The work that we do — it’s consulting, time sold. You have to pay attention to your time and how it’s used. Clients are demanding. Any time-sold professional services job can be consuming and put strain on personal time.”

That reality makes appreciation more than just a nice gesture — it makes it essential.

Over the past 40+ years, HRP’s founders and leaders have understood the importance of celebration and connection. From legendary holiday parties and Thanksgiving gatherings to the return of the HRP football game, we’ve long believed that strong culture doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built intentionally. It evolves. It endures.

Now, as part of our 2026 strategic plan, elevating employee appreciation remains a priority. “We do a good job already,” Dan says. “The challenge is that it isn’t programmatic. We want to make sure everyone benefits across HRP. We’re working toward something broader, more sustainable, repeatable, and durable.”

That includes exploring new ways to recognize contributions, including new ideas like recognition “coins” that allow employees to acknowledge one another’s impact across offices and teams.

It also means investing in what our employees consistently tell us matters most.

“We work really hard to make work a little less work,” Dan says. “What we see in our employee satisfaction surveys is that people come to HRP and stay at HRP because they love the people they work with. People make friends here.”

Driving collegial engagement — through events, flexibility, mentorship, and career development opportunities — remains one of the critical success factors in our strategic plan.

So while we recognize National Employee Appreciation Day each March, the spirit behind “3:12” continues to remind us that taking a moment to connect can strengthen a team for years to come.
