Two Days. Two Causes. One HRP Tradition: HRP's Clays Events Return for 2026

At HRP, philanthropy is woven into our culture. Our mantra—Work hard. Play hard. Give back.—shows up in the way we approach our projects, support our communities, and invest in causes that matter to our employees, clients, and friends.

This September, that commitment continues with two events that have become annual traditions: the 4th Annual Clays 4 Kids in Connecticut and the 6th Annual Clays 4 Cancer in South Carolina. Different causes. Different communities. One shared purpose: bringing people together to make a difference.

"Our Clays events are a testament to HRP's dedication to giving back," says CEO Dan Titus. "It's a day where our company's mantra, Work hard. Play hard. Give back., is brought to life in a powerful way."

The Connecticut office will kick things off on Wednesday, September 9, hosting Clays 4 Kids at East Glastonbury Fish & Game in Marlborough. Clays 4 Kids grew from HRP's commitment to supporting organizations that introduce young people to STEM and help them discover where those interests can lead. The event raises money for programs that provide mentorship, hands-on learning, and educational opportunities for students who may one day pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. It's one more way HRP can support the communities where we live and work while helping organizations that are creating opportunities for the next generation.

“Every year, Clays 4 Kids reminds me how fortunate we are to work with people who care deeply about their communities and help to inspire the next generation of environmental professionals and engineers,” says Principal & Regional Manager Jason Beach. “It’s a chance to spend time outdoors with friends and colleagues, have some fun, and raise money for programs that help young people discover their potential through STEM.”

A few weeks later, on Thursday, September 24, HRP's South Carolina team will host the 6th Annual Clays 4 Cancer at the Clinton House Plantation. What started as an idea after the pandemic has grown into one of HRP's signature philanthropic events, benefiting the American Cancer Society's Men Wear Pink campaign in Upstate South Carolina.

“Coming out of the pandemic, we were kicking around the idea of hosting an annual event that we could build upon each year. Our male staff were routinely participating in October’s Men Wear Pink campaign benefiting the American Cancer Society. With the notion that sporting clay events are the new golf tournament, Clays 4 Cancer was born from the idea that HRP could host an annual event supporting the Men Wear Pink campaign by attracting the participation of companies, individuals, and families from all dimensions of the South Carolina business community,” says Shaun Malin, Regional Manager at HRP.

Every registration, sponsorship, and donation helps support the American Cancer Society's work, from funding breast cancer research to providing patient support and resources for families. Over the past six years, the event has also become a gathering place for people throughout the business community. During lunch, conversations often turn to the people participants are shooting for—the family members, friends, coworkers, and survivors who give the day its purpose.

"The combination of fun and philanthropy and everyone coming together for one cause is just a magical thing," says Shaun.

That sense of purpose carries well beyond these two events. HRP encourages employees to volunteer, support local organizations, and give their time to causes that matter. It's part of the company's culture and one of the reasons events like these continue to grow each year.

"At HRP, we're encouraged to put hours toward philanthropic and community events," says Shaun. "I don't think there are a lot of companies out there that do that."

As HRP prepares for another September of friendly competition and fundraising, we're grateful to every client, sponsor, volunteer, and participant who continues to support Clays 4 Kids and Clays 4 Cancer. We look forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and spending another two days doing what HRP has always believed in—working hard, playing hard, and giving back.

Register, sponsor, donate: Clays 4 Kids,Clays 4 Cancer

Clays 4 Cancer 2025 recap video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPmdj2cCPWo

Clays 4 Cancer 2024 recap video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ3tyOaGQBU

Clays 4 Kids 2024 recap video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnWD_yTXCsA

HRP Associates is once again gearing up for National Safety Month. To celebrate, HRP will have something happening every single day throughout June. From Safety Bingo and hazard hunts to wellness initiatives and roadway safety activities, the goal is simple: keep safety top of mind while making it engaging and fun for employees across the company.

“We want to have fun while raising awareness around these topics,” says Jessica Reece, HRP’s Corporate Health & Safety Officer. “Discussing or attending training relevant to health and safety shouldn’t be boring. It’s an opportunity to focus on how we can keep ourselves and the people around us safe — whether we’re in the office, in the field, driving between sites, or even at home.”

The month kicks off with daily rounds of Safety Bingo, paired with health and safety tips shared companywide each day. Throughout the month, HRP will focus on weekly themes that touch on both workplace and personal wellbeing.

Week one centers around “Moving Safety Forward,” while week two shifts focus to roadway safety — an especially important topic for a consulting company where employees spend a significant amount of time traveling between offices and project sites. Week three highlights holistic worker health, including mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing, and week four focuses on preventing slips, trips, and falls.

HRP will also host a companywide safety meeting featuring seasonal safety reminders like heat-related illness prevention, sunscreen use, cooling garments, and other practical summer safety tips. Employees can also expect interactive activities like word searches, spirit week competitions, and a workplace hazard hunt.

Some of HRP’s most memorable Safety Month traditions have come from creative roadway safety competitions. In previous years, employees participated in the “Roadway Safety at the Frankies 500,” a go-kart race that incorporated roadway safety trivia, while another activity challenged staff to play Mario Kart using impairment-simulation “beer goggles” to demonstrate the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. The Mario Kart challenge is returning again this year.

But behind the games and activities is a much larger effort to continue strengthening HRP’s safety culture year-round.

“The improvements and suggestions we get from employees show a real sense of ownership,” Jessica says. “Employee engagement around safety is high because our culture is truly taking it seriously.”

One example is HRP’s recently launched “Report It, Don’t Ignore It” (RIDI) initiative, which encourages employees to report near misses, unsafe conditions, or unsafe behaviors observed in the field.

Jessica is also proud of the progress HRP has made improving communication around health and safety over the past several years. The company now distributes a monthly health and safety newsletter to all offices, highlighting incidents, near misses, seasonal risks, and important safety reminders.

“We’ve worked hard to improve how we communicate safety information,” Jessica says. “Not everybody learns the same way. Some people learn visually, others through hands-on experiences or presentations. But one of the most effective tools is employees sharing experiences with one another. When people share what they’ve seen or experienced, they’re teaching someone else.”

Another growing area of focus for HRP is overall employee wellness — something Jessica believes is directly connected to workplace safety.

“When people think about safety, they don’t always think about mental or emotional wellbeing,” she says. “But fatigue, stress, and burnout absolutely impact safety. We want employees to feel healthy overall because that affects every part of their work and daily lives.”

As HRP continues expanding its health and safety initiatives, Jessica says the company remains focused on one thing above all else: creating a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility, and one where employees feel empowered to speak up, stay engaged, and look out for one another every day of the year.
