Course Overview
In this course, we will discuss safety as it pertains to walking-working surfaces. OSHA defines walking-working surfaces as “any horizontal or vertical surface on or through which an employee walks, works, or gains access to a work area or workplace location.” Common walking-working surfaces that are addressed in Subpart D of OSHA’s General Industry standards are floors, roofs, ladders, stairways, dockboards, and scaffolds. Subpart D also contains the requirements for fall protection in General Industry. The entire subpart was revised effective January 17, 2017.
The specific objectives of this course are to provide you with an understanding of:
- The scope of Subpart D, including changes to the regulations effect in 2017.
- Identifying walking-working surface hazards in the workplace.
- Determining proper controls for walking-working surface hazards.
