The Origin of 3:12

Let’s take you back to a Friday afternoon in 1992. It was around 3:12 in the afternoon and engineers Tom Seguljic and Doug Pelham found themselves overwhelmed by their workload. They needed a break, and decided to take a walk across Cooke Street and into J. Timothy’s Taverne for a pint. Feeling revitalized, they walked back to HRP and finished up their work. The next week, around the same time, Tom and Doug decided to give it another go, this time joined by Tad Goetcheus and Keith Ziobron.

As weeks and months passed, this impromptu, pre-weekend mid-day break evolved into a cherished tradition. Every Friday afternoon at 3:12 PM, a page went out over the intercom, like HRP’s very own bat signal. About ten employees would answer the call - rising from their desks and silently heading down the road for some conversation outside the office walls. This is how the 3:12 tradition was born—a symbol of camaraderie, and a weekly ritual that fostered connection and teamwork. The 3:12 tradition reminds us all that sometimes stepping away for a moment can recharge our spirits and enhance our productivity.

Work Hard. Play Hard.

The motto "Work Hard, Play Hard" is all about balancing your professional and personal life. "Work Hard" means putting in your best effort at work, staying focused, and being dedicated to achieving your goals. It’s about being driven and striving to do your best in everything you do.

On the flip side, "Play Hard" is a reminder to make time for yourself outside of work. It’s about having fun, relaxing, and enjoying life—whether it’s spending time with friends, pursuing hobbies, or just taking a break.

The idea is that working hard is important, but it’s equally important to recharge and have a good time so you can keep your energy up and stay motivated in the long run. It’s all about finding that healthy balance!
