Connecticut Permitted Environmental Professional Training
HRP’s 1-day live seminar is designed to provide individuals with a comprehensive understanding of how the environment impacts responding to a release, understanding applicable Connecticut statutes and regulations, sampling protocols, and risk assessment for those interested in becoming Permitted Environmental Professionals (PEPs). Connecticut PEPs are required to be on-site for the remediation of releases under the new Release-Based Cleanup Regulations (RBCR) and must be retained when there is a release from an underground storage tank system. This 1-day course and the final examination have been approved by the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (CT DEEP).

Key Training Topics:

  • - The Environment (fate and transport of contamination, conceptual site modeling)
  • - Statutes and Regulations
  • - Risk Assessments
  • - Sampling and Analysis
  • - Administrative functions of a PEP

Example questions and knowledge checks will be offered during the course to ensure comprehension of the subject matter. A proctored final examination will be provided following the training seminar to all attendees. Attendees must score at least 80% to receive a training completion certificate. Certifications are valid for a three-year period at which time a 4-hour refresher training must be taken to continue to meet the training requirements for PEPs.

Who Should Attend

Individuals with a minimum of 10 years of experience (within the last 15 years) in responding to hazardous materials incidents involving mitigation and/or remedial activities associated with spills and releases including but not limited to releases from underground storage tanks; experience in planning remedial activities; knowledge of chemical fate and transport and soil classification; competency in the use of emergency equipment and emergency procedures, spill response equipment, and mitigation, containment, and removal techniques.

Up to 4 years of experience may be substituted with a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject of study (biology, chemistry, earth science, geology/hydrogeology, environmental science, or other related environmental field), and up to 2 years of experience may be substituted for an associate’s degree in a relevant subject of study.

Additionally, individuals that would like to learn more about the PEP program, but who may not plan to obtain the PEP training certification are also welcome to register.

Space is limited (50 people per training session).

Client Specific Training

Client specific training is crucial in ensuring the comprehension and application of what can otherwise be complex material. Using site specific examples and material allow trainees to understand the training in a more familiar setting. Many of HRP’s trainers once worked in general industry and understand the balance between time, compliance, and training needs. As such, HRP offers many tailorable and scalable on-site and site specific training programs such as:

  • Hands on training (such as teaching facility personnel how to take a storm water sample or how to complete a PPE assessment)
  • “One-Page” lessons to reinforce training topics
  • “Tool box” talks
  • Roundtable discussion style training
  • Recorded Trainings
  • Presentation style training
  • Content development for client managed LMS
