EHS&S a Sustainable Future

August 30th, 2021 by Dan Titus

Throughout HRP’s EH&S month, we have been highlighting the Past, Present and Future of EH&S.

We’ve shared our perspectives of the past through Throwback Thursday and the amazing places our clients have led us around the world in moving their environments forward.

We’ve heard from our very talented and empowered EH&S staff through weekly blog posts and “minute-r-views” of their perspective of past, present and future and their roles at HRP – I’m looking at you Jackie Baxley, Tad Goetcheus, Joe Pickard, Kathlynn Traub, Nick Angelo, Moris Ayamba, Jill Abbey, and Jason Davis.

We’ve heard from you about what it is like working with HRP and the value we bring to your projects and EH&S compliance needs though our client quotes.

Now, as we wrap up this month, it is time to look to the future.

EH&S leaders and practitioners are increasingly responsible for sustainability at their facilities.  This has been a gradual and logical trickle down.  As your customers ask about your recycling programs – send it to the EH&S department.  As your stakeholders ask about your carbon footprint – send it to the EH&S department.  As regulators ask how you are minimizing wastes – send it to the EH&S department.  As the community asks about your energy conservation programs – send it to the facilities department (that likely loops in EH&S).

The future of EH&S is beyond compliance, it is sustainability.  It is sustainable compliance programs that identify your key objectives and desired outcomes and ensures a framework is in place for continual improvement.  It is sustainability planning and goal setting to hold your organization accountable to the communities it calls home locally and around the globe.  It is working with your supply chains to align expectations of environmental and labor expectations.

Sustainability is the future of EH&S.  It is a future we recognize at HRP.  It is a future that we have been working towards these many years as we have assisted our clients in assessing their risk, preventing adverse impacts and controlling outcomes.    It is a future we have experienced as we leverage our years of Pollution Prevention (P2) planning, waste minimization projects, energy audits, renewable energy solutions, greenhouse gas and carbon footprint emission calculations, greenhouse gas reporting, and evaluation of carbon off-sets.

It is with the success and challenges of the past, the talented team of our present, and an eye to the future that I am happy to announce that HRP’s EH&S Group is now, at the conclusion of EH&S month, the Environmental, Health and Safety and Sustainability Group.

Join me in celebrating our EHS&S Group and our exciting future as we all move our environment forward.
