At HRP, the core of our workplace is built upon commitments – to our clients, our projects, our team, and, most importantly, to creating a culture rooted in respect and safety. Recently, we hosted Yvonne Alston, Chief Culture Architect, CEO & Founder of Indelible Impressions on the subject of anti-discrimination and the challenge of harassment in the workplace.

"Conversations about anti-discrimination and harassment in the workplace are incredibly important, especially in industries like ours, where building and advancing an inclusive and respectful environment is essential," says CEO Dan Titus. "Discrimination comes in many different forms, and every employee, regardless of identity, deserves to feel valued, heard, and treated with dignity every day. It’s our collective responsibility to ensure that HRP remains a safe, supportive, and empowering workplace for all."

In 2023, we developed a Values Statement, built upon the ideas of Trust, Integrity, Accountability, Empowerment, and Value.

We build trust and meaningful relationships with community, clients, and coworkers with uncompromising integrity and accountability. We are flexible and collaborative in the ways we empower, lead, and create solutions to achieve success. Every person and perspective are valued.

Our team put a lot of thought into crafting this statement, which reinforces our commitment to building and maintaining a culture of respect and safety— one that is essential in cultivating an inclusive and productive workplace where every employee feels valued, heard, and protected. It’s also a responsibility we all share.

In fields like construction, architecture, and engineering, the need for anti-discrimination and anti-harassment efforts is particularly pressing. Workplaces with historically imbalanced representation can present challenges in ensuring inclusivity and equity. Statistics reveal that 85% of women and 25% of men report experiencing harassment, and only 10.9% of women in the workforce are in construction roles, and 27% in architecture and engineering.

Discrimination and harassment aren’t just about gender—they also impact individuals based on race, ethnicity, age, disability, and other identities. Creating a culture of respect and accountability is essential to cultivating a safe and supportive environment where all employees are empowered to succeed.

HRP recognizes these challenges and is resolute in its commitment to fairness and accountability. Harassment of any kind—whether from colleagues, subcontractors, or clients—has no place in our community.

Anti-Harassment as a Pillar of Our Culture

Our commitments to this culture and our anti-harassment campaign are centered on our own commitments to our employees.

Commitment to Fairness - HRP is committed to fairness and we expect all employees to treat each other with respect and ensure equal opportunities. Our decision-making is merit-based and free from bias. Creating a harassment-free workplace is a shared responsibility, and every employee contributes to an environment where individuals feel safe and valued.

Speak Up and We’ll Listen – We believe in creating a safe and inclusive environment where every voice matters. Employees are encouraged to speak up, knowing that their voice matters, and that their concerns and ideas will be heard. By listening actively and valuing feedback, we cultivate a culture of respect and continuous improvement, an atmosphere where all voices are heard, concerns are taken seriously, and suggestions for enhancement are valued.

Safety First, Always and Everywhere - We are unwavering in our commitment to the health and safety of our employees, partners, and the environment, recognizing that this extends beyond physical safety to include psychological safety as well. Prioritizing psychological safety allows individuals to express their thoughts without fear of retribution. By focusing on both aspects, we create a respectful, supportive, and communicative environment for all employees to thrive.

A workplace free from harassment is the foundation of respect, safety, and inclusiveness. When employees feel secure, they are more engaged, innovative, and motivated.

Moving Forward Together

Creating a respectful workplace is more than a legal responsibility; it’s a moral imperative. It drives creativity, productivity, and a sense of belonging. At HRP, our dedication to our values statement ensures a respectful and safe environment for all. Our program is founded on the simple belief that all individuals, regardless of differences, deserve to be treated with the respect we would want for ourselves. Together, we can create a workplace where respect, safety, and inclusiveness are more than ideals—they are the foundation of everything we do.
